March 09, 2008

Saskatoon, SK -- The Edmonton Drillers defeated the Saskatoon Accelerators by a score of 11-6 in the final game of the Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League’s 2008 regular season at Credit Union Centre Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, the Drillers halted their one-game, mini-skid and secured top spot in the CMISL standings. The triumph over Saskatoon also marked Edmonton’s first road win of the season.

Although Edmonton and Calgary United FC finished the regular season with identical 8-2 records, the Drillers were awarded first place by virtue of their superior “points for/points allowed” differential in the four head-to-head meetings between the sides this season.

The fourth consecutive loss, and third straight setback at Credit Union Centre, dropped Saskatoon’s seasonal log to 4-6.

As the league’s top two seeds, Edmonton and Calgary meet in the one game, winner-take-all CMISL championship game March 14 at St. Albert’s Servus Place.
