Edmonton, AB -- The Canadian Major Indoor Soccer League’s inaugural regular season comes to a close on two fronts this weekend.
In a preview of the CMISL championship game, the Edmonton Drillers (7-1) host rival Calgary United FC (7-2) at St. Albert's Servus Place Friday, March 7, with kickoff scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Drillers hold a 2-1 advantage in the seasonal series and have outscored Calgary 21-12 in those three meetings. United FC is winless in its first two visits to Servus Place this season and suffered setbacks of 10-4 and 8-4 on Edmonton turf.
United FC can clinch top spot in the CMISL standings by defeating Edmonton by 10 or more points, while an Edmonton victory guarantees the Drillers a first-place finish.
Regardless of their finish in the standings, the Drillers and United FC will clash again in the CMISL’s one-game, winner-take-all championship match slated for Servus Place March 14.
Edmonton and Calgary secured their berths in the championship game with doubleheader sweeps in Week 7.
The Drillers wrap up their 10-game regular season schedule when they visit the Saskatoon Accelerators (4-5) for a matinee encounter Sunday, March 9.
